This Spring, Liberty once again plays one of the most difficult nonconference schedules in the area facing the likes of Poland, Springfield and Boardman. The Leopards hope to utilize this philosophy to get them primed for a post-season run. Liberty has won one playoff game in three of the last four seasons. However, the Leps have not been able to win the Sectional Championship.

Coach Gary Knittle will have to replace a group of players who excelled for the Maroon and Gold in 2012.

Pitching
Returning Individual Pitching Leaders
Earned Run Average: Tyler Evans, 0.00 (0 ER – 7.0 IP)
Pitching Wins: Michael Moamis, Tyler Evans, & Nathan DeRenzis – 1
Strikeouts: Michael Moamis, 8

Losing a pair of arms in Jared Wiesen (2.64 ERA, 4-2, 30 Ks) and Dom Gore (3.80 ERA, 3-2, 54 Ks) can’t help although a handful of others received varsity experience on the hill last Spring. Michael Moamis threw 13 innings, fanning 8 and registering a victory in the process. Tyler Evans and Nathan DeRenzis combined for 12 innings of work, allowing just 9 hits and not permitting a single earned run.

The Leopards featured six players with at-least 50 plate appearances who hit for over .320 a year ago. With Jared Weisen (.560 BA, 3 HRs, 29 RBIs), Dom Gore (.409 BA, 9 2Bs, 22 RBIs) and Mark Seals (.383 BA, 3 3Bs, 16 RBIs) all graduated, Coach Gary Knittle will look to a trio of senior bats this Spring. Justin House slugged his way to a .373 batting average with 25 hits and 16 RBIs. Tyler Evans leads all returnees with a .394 average on 26 of 66 at-bats. Evans belted 6 doubles to finish with 14 RBIs.  Luis Rivera hit for a shade under .300 (.289 BA) while compiling 22 base knocks and scored 15 times.
