Giannios’ Candy Celebrates Easter with Annual Sale

The early bird caught the worm and cashed in on half-off chocolate at Giannios’ in Struthers on Sunday.

The Easter Sunday sale has been going on for 35 years, and for some, it’s too sweet to pass on.

Coffee-in-hand, customers patiently waited to start shopping at Giannios’ half off Easter Candy Sale. Some shoppers like Max Cope, have a strategy and list

“Jelly beans and one of those bunny Easter eggs, chocolate Easter eggs,” said Cope.

However, others aren’t so sure.

“I don’t really know actually,” said another shopper.

“It’s all my favorite!” added shopper John Patterson.

People began securing their spot in line at Giannios at 4:30 on Sunday morning, something that never gets old for owner John Giannios.

“Just makes you feel good,” said Giannos.

Easter is like the Super Bowl for Giannios, with chocolate being made up until the last minute.

“We actually made candy yesterday until 4:00,” noted Giannos.

Inside, customers have their pick of 28 different flavors of eggs, chocolate bunnies and other tempting confections. Cope is on the hunt for jelly beans, but has a specific request.

“One pack that does not have black,” said Cope.

Patterson also found what he wanted; an entire box full of treats.

“We buy enough to last us for about two or three months,” said Patterson.

Although Giannios’ Sunday Easter sale has been going on for more than three decades, the recipes date back even farther.

“Making the same things my grandfather did back in the early 1900s. The only things that have changed is the packaging, and just some of the flavors,” said Giannos.

Plenty of people stocked up on as much candy as they can at the sale, which is also a tradition for some families.
