Klein Hopes to Follow up Impressive 2012

The Texas Rangers’ 30th round draft choice in the 2011 Draft is primed to have another exceptional season. Phil Klein, the 6’7 right hander from Youngstown State, begins 2013 with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

Last year, Klein tossed 10.1 innings over 7 games compiling a 0.87 ERA with 14 strikeouts compared to just 2 walks with Myrtle Beach. He combined for a 1.73 ERA overall in 40 games while perfecting a 6-0 record with 8 saves among stops in Hickory and Myrtle Beach.

The Pelicans’ manager is Jason Wood and their pitching coach is Steve Mintz. Myrtle Beach will open the season at home against the Wilmington Blue Rocks (KC) at 7:05 p.m. on April 4.
