A Youngstown man is facing charges after police said he broke into a woman’s home and stabbed her.

Patrick D. Howard, 22, is being held in the Mahoning County jail on charges of attempted murder, felonious assault and aggravated robbery. He is due back in court on Tuesday.

Police said they are still investigating what caused the attack. They said it appears Howard and the woman recently met.

Investigators said around 4 a.m. Friday, Howard stabbed the woman in an apartment building along the 4000 block of South Avenue, near Midlothian Boulevard.

The woman’s injuries didn’t appear serious. She was able to walk out of the building and get on a stretcher. Police said she was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

“They don’t appear to be life-threatening but she’s still in the hospital being treated,” Boardman Det. Glenn Patton said. “She had some lacerations to her hand and some puncture wounds to her back and her face.”
