YSU Eyes Green Bay Assistant

Less than a week after Bob Boldon stepped down as Women’s basketball coach, the YSU Athletic Department has begun the search for his replacement.  Multiples sources say that Green Bay Associate Head Coach John Barnes was on the YSU campus for an interview this week.  He is considered a strong candidate for the position.

Now, the search is ongoing involving other potential candiates, but Barnes’ resume is impressive. He spent the past two seasons with the Horizon League Champion Phoenix, helping lead the program to a fourth straight 20-win season. In fact, he previously interviewed for their head coaching job.

Barnes also made previous Division One assistant coaching stops at Michigan and Wisconsin.  He also has head coaching experience at Division two Michigan Tech…coaching the Huskies to a record of 156-55, leading the program to the Division two Championship five times.

The YSU Athletic Department would like to have a new coach hired within the next ten days, but it could potentially take place as soon as this week.
