Staffer describes chaos at Pa. abortion clinic

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A former Philadelphia abortion clinic worker says he routinely saw newborn babies killed with scissors at the clinic run by a doctor charged with murder.

But unlicensed doctor Stephen Massof also believes Dr. Kermit Gosnell was trying to help “abused and neglected” women seeking abortions.

The 72-year-old Gosnell is on trial in the deaths of a woman patient and seven newborns.

Massof awaits sentencing after pleading guilty to third-degree murder for two infant deaths. Eight clinic employees have pleaded guilty to various charges, while a ninth is on trial with Gosnell.

Massof smiled Thursday as he gave graphic testimony about the clinic.

He says Gosnell suggested it was a financial sacrifice to practice inner-city medicine.

Yet prosecutors say he made millions — and kept $250,000 in cash under his mattress.
