WARREN, Ohio (AP) — Toxicology tests show six Ohio teenagers who drowned when a speeding SUV crashed into a pond had no alcohol in their systems, and the available results also show no sign of drugs.
State Highway Patrol Lt. Brian Holt says investigators determined the SUV was traveling between 62 and 70 mph on a 35-mph road when the driver lost control March 10 in Warren, about 50 miles southeast of Cleveland.
Tests for the 19-year-old female driver and three boys who died found no sign of drugs. Results aren’t complete for two more boys who died and two who survived.
Holt says the driver was driving recklessly during what he describes as a night of “joyriding.” She didn’t have a valid license.
The SUV was reported stolen after the crash.
