Ohio Democrat to run for Boehner seat

CINCINNATI (AP) — A steelworker and union official is launching a Democratic campaign in House Speaker John Boehner’s (BAY-ner’s) western Ohio district.

Thirty-seven-year-old Andrew Hounshell plans a kickoff announcement Friday evening in Middletown. He is vice president of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers local that represents hourly employees at AK Steel’s Middletown plant.

He gave a speech introducing President Barack Obama at a rally in Cincinnati last September, but this will be his first run for public office. He says he wants to work for families and the middle class in Congress.

The Middletown native says he served in the Army out of high school before going to work at AK Steel. He and his wife have 3-year-old triplets.

Boehner has handily won re-elections since winning the seat in 1990.
