Reds’ boss, John Glenn to get honors in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (AP) — Former astronaut and U.S. Sen. John Glenn and Cincinnati Reds owner Bob Castellini will be among four people receiving honorary degrees at the University of Cincinnati’s commencement ceremonies this month.

The university says the others receiving the honorary doctorates on April 27 are pianist and conductor Leon Fleisher and Cincinnati business leader and philanthropist Sandra Heimann.

Glenn will receive an honorary doctorate in engineering. He became the first American to orbit the Earth on Feb. 20, 1962, and was viewed as a national hero for helping to lead the United States into space. Glenn served as a U.S. Marine Corps pilot in World War II and the Korean War and later represented Ohio in the U.S. Senate for 24 years.

Castellini is also chairman of the Castellini Group of Companies.
