Fire in eastern Pa. apartment building kills 2

MAHANOY CITY, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in eastern Pennsylvania say an early morning fire in an apartment building claimed the lives of a couple and sent another person to the hospital.

Fire officials in Schuylkill County say the blaze in the three-story building in Mahanoy City was reported just before 2 a.m. Saturday.

Deputy Coroner David Truskowsky said 60-year-old Adele Seabra was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said 69-year-old Morris Seabra was rescued from the second floor and treated at the scene but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at a Pottsville-area hospital.

Another man was flown to a hospital but his condition was not immediately available.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
