Pa. man convicted in 2009 killing of wife in home

READING, Pa. (AP) — An eastern Pennsylvania man will receive a life sentence after being convicted of fatally shooting his wife in the head more than three years ago.

A jury deliberated six hours before finding William Landis Jr. guilty in the October 2009 killing of his wife, Sharon, inside their Berks County home.

The Reading Eagle ( ) reports Landis closed his eyes and friends and family wept as the verdict was announced Friday night.

Prosecutors say William Landis fired three shots at his wife after an argument inside their Spring Township home. An eight-hour standoff ensued.

The defense claimed Sharon Landis’ death was an accident because her death happened during a struggle over the gun.
