Slain soldier to be honored at Ohio highway

HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) — A southwest Ohio soldier killed nearly seven years ago in Iraq will be honored with his name on a highway.

Ohio Route 4 in Hamilton will be named First Sgt. Ricky L. McGinnis Memorial Highway. A dedication ceremony will be Saturday for the naming approved by the state Legislature.

The 42-year-old Hamilton soldier was killed in 2006 by an improvised explosive device.

Last week, sections of two other state highways in Butler County were dedicated to two area soldiers killed in Afghanistan. Part of Ohio 128 is the Cpl. Nicholas Olivas (OH’-lee-vahs) Memorial Highway. An Ohio 129 segment is named Sgt. Robert A. Massarelli (MAS’-uh-rell-ee) Memorial Highway.
