Boardman Police Investigating Fire

Boardman police and fire departments are investigating a fire late Wednesday that may have started as a break-in.

Fire officials say residents were alerted by at about 10 p.m. a burglar alarm at their Shelby Road home.

When they arrived home, they found smoke coming from the garage area and called the fire department, who finished at the scene more than three hours later.

The family pet was saved from the fire. Damage to the home is estimated at $50,000.

The fire and police departments are working together on the investigation.
