A deaf Champion man pleaded guilty Thursday to sending sexually explicit text messages to a 12-year-old girl.

Stephen D’Andrea, 22, pleaded guilty to importuning in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

A sentencing date has not yet been set.

D’Andrea was apprehended by Lordstown police and the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force in October.

The girl’s mother told Lordstown police D’Andrea had contacted the girl. During their investigation, Lordstown police found D’Andrea also sent text messages to a 14-year-old girl.

Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Gabe Wildman, who heads up the sex crimes unit, said it took a while for the case to get to court because prosecutors wanted to ensure D’Andrea had a Supreme Court certified interpreter.
