Coronation Held in Warren

New royalty was crowned Friday in Warren. The Queen for a Day Foundation held a coronation at the Trumbull Art Gallery for Betty Strawderman.

The distinction was a surprise for Strawderman, who currently has 18 children in her care. She has taken in children who are in need since 1977.

The foundation was established to honor women who’ve pushed through great adversity and give back to the community. It selects a new queen each year. The organization accepts nominations from the community and then the board decides who will be crowned.

“We’ve received several nominations and every one of them is deserving, but we thought Betty was special because of the love she’s given and the work that she’s done,” said Jennifer Campbell, founder of Queen for a Day.

The coronation includes a proclamation from Mayor Doug Franklin, a shopping spree, luncheon and makeover.
