The Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County is seeking the public’s help so it can win a grant from Walmart.

Walmart is giving away $3 million to 100 Feeding America network food banks and their partner feeding agencies.  As part of its Fighting Hunger Together initiative, Walmart is giving out $3 million in grants for the most innovative and effective programs that help alleviate child hunger.

The Community Food Warehouse is in 11th place and as of Friday night, it had 2,614 votes. It needs to remain in the top 40 to win the grant.

The agency is seeking a $45,000 grant to support its Backpack Program. In Mercer County, the Backpack Program currently serves more than 560 children in four school districts, but organizers said there are many more children in need.

Votes can be cast through Monday and people can vote once a day. To vote, click here: Mercer Food Bank Contest.

Last year, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley shared a $1 million prize with Catholic Charities Regional Agency and Trumbull Mobile Meals in Walmart’s contest.
