The three-mile run raised awareness about animal cruelty, with the proceeds benefiting Angels for Animals.

Dogs and their owners dashed through Austintown Township Park Saturday afternoon.

Jackson-Milton High School sophomores, Mitchell Tikkanen and Michaela Delaney came up with the idea for the Doggy Dash 5K race.  It all started as part of an assignment for their advanced English class.

The three-mile run raised awareness about animal cruelty, with the proceeds benefiting Angels for Animals.

The duo said they learned a lot putting this race together.

“I learned there’s beauty in everything.  It started out as a project and it evolved into something more,” said Tikkanen.

Organizers said they raised $450 at the Doggy Dash.
