Members of the Ohio Racing Commission said Tuesday they will sit down with executives of Penn National Gaming to discuss the proposed racino in Austintown.
Penn National offered a nine-page letter to commission members Tuesday at the racing commission’s weekly meeting in Columbus.
The company asked for members to support their plans for the $125 million Hollywood Slots at the Mahoning Valley Racecourse. Penn National needs the commission to approve a racing license transfer from Beulah Downs in Columbus to the Austintown site.
The company said they’ve also asked to meet separately with commission members to try and resolve differences over the project. The two sides plan to meet April 24 in Columbus.
Penn National had planned to start construction this month. But the racing commission denied the transfer several times because it has issues with the proposed plans. The commission said Penn National needs to include more spectator seating, more dorm space for jockeys and more horse stables.
