Former Students Walk Through Austintown Elementary School for the Last Time

School Holds Fareware Tour
Lloyd Elementary School on Norquest Boulevard in Austintown will close at the end of the school year.

A farewell celebration in Austintown Wednesday night as former students had one last chance to walk through their old school.

Lloyd Elementary School on Norquest Boulevard is closing at the end of the school year.   The public enjoyed walking the halls and remembering memories in the old classrooms. This fall, the district will combine its four elementary buildings into one.

“It’s an honor to be principal here after being a student. It’s bittersweet that we are closing this building, as any building in the district you know, the rainbow here is that we are going to have new facilities in Austintown,” said Principal Thomas Lenton.

One of those who took a last tour was Dorothy Lloyd Hood, 96, whose father donated his farm land back in the 1950’s for Lloyd Elementary and Fitch High School. In return, the district named the school after her father.
