Ohio AG says disbarred attorney charged with theft

CINCINNATI (AP) — A disbarred attorney accused of stealing more than $400,000 from an 83-year-old southwest Ohio woman has been indicted on charges including theft.

Attorney General Mike DeWine says William G. Goetz, of Cincinnati, was indicted there Tuesday on two counts each of theft from the elderly and money laundering and one count of tampering with records.

Authorities say Goetz handled a real estate transaction for the woman and put money from the transaction into accounts for his personal use.

DeWine says the North Dakota Supreme Court disbarred Goetz in 1991 for fraudulent dealings with clients, and the Ohio Supreme Court sanctioned Goetz for unauthorized practice of law in 2005.

DeWine says an arrest warrant has been issued for Goetz.

Goetz didn’t return a call to his home Wednesday.
