General Motors Lordstown unveiled the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel on Thursday, touting it as having the best gas mileage of any non-hybrid passenger car.
The new Cruze was lauded as having an industry best EPA-estimated 46 miles-per-gallon on the highway. According to General Motors engineers, that is better than any non-hybrid passenger car in America.
“We were working all the way through to the final EPA test on product improvements and in fact, relentlessly, every day, every hour, every night, to get to this level,” said Gary Altman, GM Chief Engineer, Small Compact Car.
The Cruze Diesel will start to show up in car showrooms in the next few weeks. It goes on sale nationwide by the fall. GM Lordstown officials said a small amount of cars coming off the line will be diesels, but that could increase depending on how well the car sells.
The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel costs $25,000 fully loaded.
