Handel’s Location Gets New Look

The oldest Handel’s Ice Cream Shop, located at the corner of Market Street and Midlothian Boulevard in Youngstown, has a new look.

The ice cream shop, which officially opened in 1950, is once again dishing out ice cream to customers.

The owner decided to renovate the location instead of knocking it down or moving. He said it has special meaning to him and many of the employees.

“We completely remodeled the whole place to make it look like the rest of the locations,” said Handel’s owner Lenny Fisher. “And we did this to keep this. We love this neighborhood. We want to stay in this neighborhood. We figured it would be great for everybody.

Fisher said he is planning a reunion later to bring together all the people who helped make Handel’s a Valley staple.

“I’m going to put it out on Facebook, email everybody. If you worked with Lenny or worked with Handel’s, come on down for a reunion,” said Fisher.
