Ohio nurse pleads guilty in murder-for-hire case

CLEVELAND (AP) — A former Cleveland Clinic nurse accused of trying to hire an emergency room patient to carry out a murder plot has pleaded guilty.

Andrew Martin changed his plea Thursday in federal court in Cleveland. He admitted to a charge of using a phone to further the plot. Authorities had said he used a cellphone to discuss the scheme.

Authorities say the 23-year-old Martin offered $10,000 to an ER patient to kill a woman in a dispute over ownership of her deceased brother’s home. The woman was not harmed.

Investigators say the patient tipped off police that he had been asked by a nurse if he “ever killed anyone.”

Martin was arrested in November. He initially pleaded not guilty in December.

He’s due to be sentenced in July.
