Ohioan, 18, indicted in sledgehammer killings of 2

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An 18-year-old northeast Ohio man has been indicted in the killings of a prominent attorney and his wife, who were beaten with a sledgehammer.

Shawn Ford of Akron also is suspected in a nonfatal assault of the couple’s teenage daughter. Police say Ford dated the girl.

The charges in the indictment released Friday include five counts of aggravated murder, two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of felonious assault. The aggravated murder charges carry death specifications, indicating prosecutors will seek the death penalty if Ford is convicted on those charges.

Ford’s attorney said he and Ford had not discussed the indictment and he couldn’t immediately comment further.

A 14-year-old boy also has been charged in the April 2 deaths of Jeffrey and Margaret Schobert at their New Franklin home.
