Zombies will be taking over Youngstown State University this week.
Members of the YSU Urban Gaming Club are spending the week playing “Humans vs. Zombies” all around campus. More than 100 students already have signed up to take part and organizers expect even more will join in as the week goes on.
Players use Nerf dart guns and balled-up socks as their weapons. Organizers said they try to hold some sort of activity every semester as a way to blow off steam.
“We’re getting ready for the end of the semester crunch. You know, finals are coming up in a week or two and a lot of people get stressed out. But the beauty of this game is you don’t have to be always playing the game. You can come here dressed to the nines in all the camo gear and stuff, but also it’s played just walking to your classroom and back,” said Urban Gaming Club member Bert Amoline of Warren.”Sometimes we’ll have things called ‘Nerf wars’ where everybody has a Nerf blaster. Playing games like Capture the Flag. We also have games of dodgeball. We’re trying to get four-square on campus too. Just basically get outdoors, have some fun running around.”
Organizers said the game is not all that different from tag, with the humans wearing orange armbands and the zombies wearing headbands.
The game started at 7 a.m. Monday and runs through Friday night.
