Demolition Crews Tear Down Garages

Garages Torn Down

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation demolished two blighted garages in the Idora neighborhood.

About 30 volunteers from local churches and YSU fraternities came out Saturday to help.

The city donated funds for the project, and Schwebel’s Bakery donated a truck to carry equipment.

Nick Celio with YNDC said the goal is to make neighborhoods look better and increase property values in the area.

“We have so many vacant properties and structures. And it is one of the biggest reasons why you see our property values plummeting. People leaving vacant houses, fires happen, vandalism happens,” said Celio. “It can just really tear down your neighborhood.”

This was the second year for the demolition project. The YNDC plans to tear down more blighted structures in the near future.
