IRWIN, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a man shot his wife and son in their family home last week before turning the gun on himself.
Det. Sgt. Jeffrey Bouldin said Saturday that 68-year-old Franklin Hutchison shot his 67-year-old wife, Hazel and then their 47-year-old son, William in the North Huntingdon Township residence.
The Westmoreland County coroner’s office said the bodies were found Thursday night, but authorities said they believe the shootings happened early Tuesday morning.
Bouldin said the gun was found near the older man’s body downstairs, while the wife’s body was upstairs in bed and the son was in a hallway near a bathroom. All three died of single gunshot wounds.
Bouldin said the motive is believed to have been “a family situation” but declined to be more specific.
