Search continues for missing Lake Erie kayakers

SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) — Authorities along Lake Erie in Ohio haven’t given up the search for a father and his 12-year-old daughter who were last seen two weeks ago leaving with their kayaks near Sandusky Bay.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office dive team has been walking along the shoreline this week.

There has been no sign of the 30-year-old man and his daughter since they set out to go out kayaking April 6 without taking life jackets.

Two empty kayaks found the next day.

Authorities say Jonathan Francis, of Sandusky, and his daughter Viola Francis are missing and presumed drowned.

A sheriff’s deputy tells the News-Herald newspaper ( ) in Port Clinton that they want to find the father and daughter so that they can give the family some closure.
