Westfield PA woman killed; Suspect shot by cops

WESTFIELD, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania state police say a Westfield woman was shot to death by her ex-boyfriend who was later gunned down by law enforcement.

Trooper Roger Williams says that Vickie Lynn Copp was killed at her home around 7 p.m. Friday. He says her former boyfriend, Barry Mead, was shot to death by a Westfield police officer.

The altercation began when Mead forced his way into the woman’s apartment, went into the bedroom and returned with a shotgun. Williams says Copp tried to run but was shot. A neighbor called 911. A responding officer came face-to-face with Mead, who had reloaded the shotgun. Williams says the officer told him to drop the weapon but he didn’t, and the officer fired.

The two were pronounced dead at the scene.
