Ohio transportation worker killed in fiery crash

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a state transportation worker has been killed in a fiery crash along an Ohio highway, north of Columbus.

The State Highway Patrol said the Ohio Department of Transportation employee was operating a backhoe along Interstate 71 on Monday morning, when a commercial vehicle drove off the right side of the northbound lanes and struck the backhoe. The patrol said the commercial vehicle flipped over and then became engulfed in flames.

The worker, 27-year-old Lee Rizor, of Mt. Gilead was declared dead at the scene.

The 59-year-old driver of the commercial vehicle was transported to the hospital. Dwayne Allen Hill Sr., of Ashland, Va., was listed in critical condition.

The patrol said the crash remains under investigation.
