Man ordered to trial in slaying of Pa. woman

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania man has been ordered to stand trial in the stabbing death of his girlfriend last month.

Twenty-two-year-old Nicholas Martin of Johnsonburg is charged in Elk County with homicide, aggravated assault and abuse of a corpse in the March 23 death of 18-year-old Alyssa Forsyth of Ridgway.

A friend testified Wednesday that the defendant told him he had choked Forsyth and then stabbed her with a screwdriver and a kitchen knife. The witness said the victim had told him earlier that Martin had threatened to kill her.

Authorities said Forsyth’s body was found in a garbage bag buried near several deer carcasses in a Ridgway Township park.

Defense attorney George Daghir called no witnesses during the hearing. Martin’s formal arraignment in county court is scheduled May 31.
