Organ Donors Honored with Flag Raising

In celebration of Donate Life Month, St. Elizabeth Health Center and Lifebanc honored organ donors Wednesday with a flag raising ceremony.

The families of the organ donors were invited to the event and organ recipients were also in attendance.

Lifebanc has worked with St. Elizabeth Health Center for more than 25 years.  Organizers said this is an opportunity to give thanks to the donors and their families for giving the gift of life to others.

“The donors and the donor families are so appreciative that even in their time of sorrow and grieving, they have that opportunity to give that last chance of life,” said kidney transplant recipient Stephanie Fleischman. “And people like me, because of them and their loved ones, lived.”

Nearly 120,000 people in the U.S. are waiting for an organ transplant. There are 1,800 in northeast Ohio.
