A Poland man was killed Tuesday afternoon in Carroll County when his semi truck overturned on state Route 9.
The New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said James C. Masterson, 54, of Thalia Avenue, was driving a 2012 Freightliner tractor-trailer southbound around 5:30 p.m. in Lee Township when he failed to negotiate a right curve and lost control.
The tractor-trailer overturned and went off the left side of the road. He was taken to Aultman Hospital in Canton, where he later died.
At the time of the crash, Masterson was hauling 44,000 pounds of sand in conjunction with the oil and gas exploration industry. Route 9 remained closed for several hours following the accident, according to the patrol.
Troopers said Masterson was wearing a seat belt and alcohol is not suspected in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
