YSU Joins Manufacturing Network

Youngstown State University entered into an agreement Wednesday with MAGNET, the Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network.

The group provides resources such as consulting and technical services to small to medium size manufacturing companies.

Right now, MAGNET serves 16 businesses, which are using those resources to make 15 new products and create 470 new jobs in Northeast Ohio by 2014.

MAGNET President and CEO Daniel Berry said he thinks academic institutions in Northeast Ohio haven’t been tapped in terms of helping small to midsize manufacturing.

“They don’t have the time or the wherewithal to sort through the university and its infrastructure and bureaucracy, but at the same time, they are real assets that help them in their growth strategies,” said Berry.

MAGNET hopes to reach out to at least 50 manufacturers by 2014.
