Community Cup Holds Kick-off Event

The first phase of the Community Cup competition among Youngstown area businesses kicked off Thursday at the downtown YMCA.

Representatives from businesses and organizations in the Valley met for breakfast and to learn the rules and go over any changes for the upcoming Community Cup season.

The match-up involves about 20 teams from local businesses. The program creates an awareness of the importance of physical fitness for individuals and companies through a series of challenges.

Additions to the competition this year include a bocce tournament and pep rally cheer competition.

“We want to make participants healthy, and when participants are healthy that makes them better employees,” said Community Cup Director Jennifer Quinlan. “They take off less time, and they are in a better mindset at work.”

Organizers said the most popular event is a weight-loss challenge. Interested teams and businesses can still sign up at the YMCA.
