Man killed when car travels off road in NE Ohio

ELYRIA, Ohio (AP) — The State Highway Patrol is investigating a traffic crash in northeast Ohio that killed an Ohio man.

The patrol says the car driven by 44-year-old David Makaryk, of Columbia Station, traveled off Ohio 252 and struck two utility poles about 8:30 Saturday morning on Ohio 252 in Columbia Township near Elyria. Troopers say Makaryk died at the scene.

The patrol said in a statement that a witness reported seeing Makaryk’s car traveling at a high rate of speed behind a red Ford 150 pickup truck prior to Makaryk’s car going off the road. The witness told authorities that the truck continued southbound on Ohio 252 and didn’t stop after the crash.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the crash or the red pickup to contact the Elyria patrol post.
