Ravens Take Simon in 4th Round

The defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens selected Cardinal Mooney alum John Simon (6’1, 257 pound defensive end) with the 129th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Simon was the 2012 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year for Ohio State. John led the Big Ten with 9 sacks and finished second with 14.5 tackles for a loss. For his collegiate career, #54 had 20.5 quarterback takedowns.

Simon was the second Buckeye taken in the draft. The first was Jonathan Hankins, who was taken in the second round by the Giants.

The last Cardinal Mooney alum to have been selected in the NFL Draft was in 1992 when Vince Marrow (TE/Toledo) was picked in the 11th round by Buffalo.

Simon was honored by being selected as a member of the MyValleySports.com’s Big 22 team in 2008.
