Boy, 5, seriously hurt when SUV hits Amish buggy

WOOSTER, Ohio (AP) — A 5-year-old boy riding in an open Amish buggy remains hospitalized with serious injuries after it was hit by an SUV in northern Ohio.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said a GMC Jimmy crested a hill and hit the open buggy from behind, forcing it off the road. The SUV then swerved into the other lane and hit an oncoming car.

The driver of the buggy, 36-year-old Joseph Yoder Fredericksburg, and his 9-year-old son were treated at the scene following the Saturday morning crash. The drivers of the other vehicles also were treated at the scene.

Yoder’s 5-year-old son was flown to a hospital in Akron where he was still in serious condition on Sunday.

The highway patrol said speed and driver inattention were factors in the crash.
