Suspect search prompts lockdowns at 6 Ohio schools

School crime

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The search for suspects after an armed robbery has led to temporary lockdowns at four elementary schools, a middle school and a high school in Columbus as a safety precaution.

Police tell local media there was a brief chase Monday before multiple suspects abandoned their vehicle and ran away in a neighborhood several miles north of downtown Columbus. The ensuing search led to lockdowns of public schools near the area where the suspects fled.

The central Ohio district said the school lockdowns were lifted shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Local media reported one person was in custody. It wasn’t immediately clear whether police had located all of the suspects in the lunchtime robbery.
