A local band performed in California and came home with some pretty impressive performance awards.

Over the weekend, Northern Whale of Austintown performed at the House of Blues in Hollywood and attended the Indie Music Channel awards in Los Angeles. The Indie Music Channel is an online radio station.

The four teen boys won Best Teen Band and Best Teen Live Performance. The members are guitarist Brandon Fisher, bassist Jake Stephens, guitarist and vocalist Jake Capezzuto and drummer Seth Donchess.

They write all their own songs in the alternative genre, inspired by the likes of The Cure, Walk the Moon and The Vaccines.

The band hopes to release its second album sometime this spring.
