Trial ordered in hit-run death of NE Pa. child

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — A northeastern Pennsylvania man has been ordered to stand trial in the hit-and-run death of a 5-year-old child last year.

A Luzerne County judge ruled Monday that there was enough evidence for the case against 23-year-old Thomas Letteer Jr. to proceed to county court.

Investigators allege that Letteer was behind the wheel of a car that struck Kevin Miller of Dallas, Pa. as he was crossing a Wilkes-Barre street on Dec. 21.

The child was pronounced dead shortly afterward at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Defense attorney William Ruzzo repeatedly suggested that the charges were based almost entirely on circumstantial evidence.

The defendant remains free on $200,000 bail pending trial on a charge of involvement in an accident involving death or injury.
