Dog bites off piece of Ohio prison inmate’s nose

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The state says a rescue dog bit off part of an Ohio prison inmate’s nose after the prisoner tripped and fell on the dog.

A report of the April 18 incident says the inmate was playing handball at an outdoor recreation area at a central Ohio inmate reception center when he fell on the dog while chasing a ball.

The report says the dog, named Thor, bit the inmate in the face, biting off his left nostril.

The inmate was taken to a prison medical center for treatment, and the dog was taken back to a shelter.

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction spokesman Mike Davis told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the dog was part of a program where inmates train abandoned dogs for adoption.
