Ducklings rescued from storm drain in central Pa.

YORK, Pa. (AP) — Fourteen ducklings are OK after they fell into a storm drain while following their mother across a central Pennsylvania parking lot and had to be flushed out by firefighters.

It happened after a woman saw the ducks disappear down the drain in East Manchester Township on Tuesday. Sarah Jones tells the York Daily Record (http://bit.ly/13Klamc ) she was leaving a store at the shopping center when she saw the ducks drop through the grate and into a storm drain, one by one.

Jones flagged down a police officer and asked him to call for help.

Firefighters arrived and pulled up the grate. They flushed the ducklings out of the drain with about 1,000 gallons of water and rubber balls.

The ducklings were loaded into a bucket and coaxed onto the lawn.
