Home Savings Funds Trip to the Past

The Home Savings Charitable Foundation presented a $2,600 check Wednesday to Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past.

The money will help offset the costs for seven Youngstown High School students who went on a 10-day trip to the south to learn about the Civil Rights movement.

The trip was at the end of March and wrapped up in April.

Students got the chance to meet key players in the Civil Rights movement and learn the lessons of what the movement was all about.

“Which are justice, compassion, non-violence, civic responsibility, not being a silent witness, forgiveness and hope,” said Penny Wells with Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past.

At the end of the trip, students had to come up with an action plan to implement back at home. They’ve taken part in a number of events so far and presented their plan to the school board.
