Ohio coroner: kayaking dad, daughter drowned

PORT CLINTON, Ohio (AP) — A coroner in northern Ohio says a father and daughter who went missing while kayaking on Lake Erie died from drowning.

The bodies of 30-year-old Jonathan Francis and his 12-year-old daughter Viola Francis were found last week several miles apart in Lake Erie.

The two had been missing for nearly three weeks since going out on Sandusky Bay.

The Erie County Coroner says there were no signs of injuries to either victim.

Family members and authorities say the pair left for a short kayak trip on April 6 but they never came home.

They did not have life jackets when they set out on the water about midway between Toledo and Cleveland.
