Police: Passed out Pa. dad let girl, 2, wander

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A southwestern Pennsylvania man is jailed on charges that his 2-year-old daughter was found wandering outside while police found him so drunk he was passed out at home.

Uniontown police arrested 28-year-old Shawn Hodgetts Jr. shortly after a neighbor found the girl wandering on the street Tuesday afternoon. The dirty-faced girl was crying and wearing a wet diaper when she was found.

Police began searching nearby residences to determine where the girl lived and stopped at Hodgetts’ home when they saw a child’s swing set and Hodgetts passed out on a couch.

Police say Hodgetts didn’t wake up even after police kicked his door and yelled at him, though they were eventually able to revive the man.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Hodgetts who faces a May 7 hearing on child endangerment charges.
