Mahoning County Commissioner David Ditzler expressed concerns on Thursday with the new way Community Development Block Grants are distributed.
Ditzler said the way Ohio administers the grants has changed, putting cities like Campbell and Struthers in with the rest of the townships and villages in the county. The cities used to be in a separate fund.
The county must now combine projects from cities, townships and villages with 35 percent less funding than they received last year.
“The State of Ohio has forced us into a process that had never been done in the past and reduced funds in an effort to balance the state budgets and take away more money from the local communities,” said Ditzler.
Ditzler said the county will only be able to fund two of the eight projects from the townships and villages.
