DA crosses W. Pa. man in murder of mom, sis, aunt

Crime murder

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania man on trial for charges that he murdered his mother, sister and elderly aunt at his automotive glass shop told a district attorney that he simply forgot he had a girlfriend when state troopers questioned him later that day.

Fifty-two-year-old Kevin Murphy, of Conemaugh (kaw-NEH’-maw) Township acknowledged that was a lie — but testified Thursday he was so shaken by the killings he simply forgot about his relationship when questioned later that day, April 23, 2009.

But Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck suggested Murphy avoided mentioning his girlfriend because Murphy knew she was the reason Murphy killed the women.

Murphy has denied it, but Peck contends Murphy shot his relatives because they disapproved of his relationship with the married woman.

A jury will hear closing arguments on Friday.
