Guilty verdicts in Pa. triple-murder case

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A jury in western Pennsylvania has found a man guilty of first-degree murder in the deaths of his mother, sister and elderly aunt in his automotive glass shop in 2009.

Jurors deliberated just a few hours before returning their verdict Friday evening against Kevin Murphy.

On Monday, jurors will return to the Westmoreland County courtroom to begin the penalty phase of the trial, when they must choose between the death penalty and life imprisonment.

Prosecutors said Murphy killed his 69-year-old mother Doris Murphy, his 43-year-old sister Kris Murphy and his 81-year-old aunt Edith Tietge (TEET’-gee) in April 2009 because they disapproved of his relationship with a married woman.
