Healthy Eating on a Budget Explored in Niles

Eating healthy isn’t always cheap, but some people in Niles learned how they can still buy nutritious food without dishing out too much money.

The Niles Health Department hosted Friday’s session with the help of YSU dietetic students.

Participants walked away with information and a few recipes. Girard resident Fran Wilson said she learned a lot and plans on using it.

“One thing is when you shop fresh, and you’re lucky to do that in the summertime with all the fresh produce and everything, then you want to try to plan to shop in bulk so you can freeze it or can it,” said Wilson.

Wilson said shopping at the farmer’s market is also a good option because the products are local and you can talk to the farmer about ways to cook it.
